2017: New year, new consciousness

hnw20172016 was a big year for us. We turned vegetarian. We committed to Start with Something. And to each other. (We got married!)

2017 certainly has giant shoes to fill.

Here are a few realisations that I hope will fuel our energy in 2017:

  • More focus: We often try to do too many things. What ends up happening is that we don’t do anything enough to matter. We hope to pick a few things this year – personally, professionally and for the community — and prioritise our time and effort to do those things well.
  • More giving: We feel that we didn’t give enough last year. This year between us we hope to contribute more time and money towards causes that matter.
  • More mindfulness: Stewart and I both have backgrounds in meditation. In 2016, we did Vipassana together. We have the tools to help us be more mindful, however we don’t use them enough. Yesterday we meditated before bedtime, and went for a long walk without our phones. I hope we work towards being more present in the moments of our daily lives.
  • More gratitude: In the whirlwind of daily life, it is easy to forget how lucky we are. This year we’d like to be more grateful for our families, our good health, our jobs, and our options.

Being conscious of these things should help us in everything we do.
